Basic Chord Switching Guitar Lesson 2: Em to G

In this lesson we will focus on making transitions between chords easier by maintaining fingers positions which are common to both.  Let’s begin by fingering the Em chord from the previous lesson and giving it a strum.  In order to transition to the new chord (G):

  1. Keep your first finger on the second fret of the A string
  2. Lift your second finger from the D string
  3. Place your second finger on the third fret of the Low E
  4. Place your third finger on the second fret of the High E
  5. Strum all six strings with your left hand

To switch back to Em, reverse this process:

  1. Keep your first finger on the second fret of the A string
  2. Lift your second and third fingers simultaneously
  3. Place your second finger on the second fret of the D string
  4. Strum all six strings with your left hand

To ensure this transition can be made smoothly while maintaining time, repeat the drum track/metronome strumming exercise from the previous lesson.
