            D (3) A7 D (4)
I wandered again, to my home in the mountains
                       D (4) A7 (4)
where in youth's early dawn I was happy and free
                D (3) A7 D (4)
I looked for my friends, but I never could find 'em
                  D (3) A7 D G D (2)
I found they were all rank strangers to me

Chorus:

               D (8)
Everybody I've met, seemed to be a rank stranger
              D (4) A7 (4)
No mother nor dad, not a friend could I see
                 D (8)
They knew not my name, and I knew not their faces
                  D (3) A7 D G D (2)
I found they were all rank strangers to me

                   D (3) A7 D (4)
They've all moved away, said the voice of a stranger
               D (4) A7 (4)
to a beautiful home on the bright crystal sea
               D (3) A7 D (4)
Some beautiful day, I'll meet 'em in heaven
                  D (3) A7 D G D (2)
where no one will be a stranger to me

Everybody I've met, seemed to be a rank stranger
              D (4) A7 (4)
No mother nor dad, not a friend could I see
                 D (8)
They knew not my name, and I knew not their faces
