I appreciate that each student has a different background, goals, influences, habits and learning needs. There is no cookie-cutter, one-size fits all method for learning either acoustic or electric guitar. Over my 10,000+ hours of teaching experience I have built progressive lesson plans based on my education at the world-renowned Berklee College Of Music in a wide variety of contemporary styles intended to take each player to the next level, whether they are beginners or experienced players. Whether you want to learn improvisation, songwriting, fingerpicking, rhythm guitar, improve your technique or just entertain yourself playing your favorite songs, I have a guitar lesson for you!
Many beginner adults want to learn to play the songs they love to hear. That’s a great approach, but many people lack the discipline to learn an entire song on their own, instead learning their favorite part and skipping everything else. I like to use my guitar lessons to push students to learn a piece in its entirety, coaching them through the more difficult or less familiar sections. I even show acoustic guitar players how to sing the lyrics to each song as they strum the chords. That way when they go to perform a piece for a friend, family member or just the dog, they can entertain their audience with an entire song!
Other adults already have some background on the guitar and are looking to take their skills to the next level. This requires a teacher who can quickly assess a student’s current stage of development and come up with a strong guitar lesson plan to build on the student’s foundation. As a Berklee graduate, I have a deep background in wide variety of styles including rock, pop, jazz, funk, blues, solo guitar, fingerpicking, and much more. In my decade of teaching experience, I have developed the ability to draw on this knowledge to create a concise, effective lesson plan.
To better accommodate adult lessons, Primeau Guitar Studio offers a quiet, relaxed, one-on-one home studio atmosphere located in North Austin. Students will not have to deal with noise from adjacent lesson rooms or a claustrophobic learning space. My home studio is spacious and filled with all the necessary equipment and resources needed for a great guitar lesson. Each lesson is audio recorded and assignments are logged in an Evernote page. Students can even write and record their own songs! I bring my love of music to each guitar lesson, which hopefully rubs off on the student. My aim is make my student love playing the guitar as much as I do!
